GMF and Batam Industrial Development Authority to Cooperate for MRO Facility

Batam – PT Garuda Maintenance Facility Aero Asia (GMF), a Garuda Indonesia’s subsidiary, sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Batam Industrial Development Authority (BP Batam) to utilizing Hang Nadim airport areas for MROs development. The MoU was signed by President & CEO of GMF, Juliandra, and Head of BP Batam, Hatanto Reksodiputro on February 20th, 2017 at BP Batam Headquarter, Batam, Riau Archipelago.

President & CEO of GM, Juliandra said that BP Batam’s area will be utilized for GMF and its partner to build aircraft maintenance facilities; hangar and another supporting facility inclusive of a logistic warehouse. These plans are the inorganic strategy according to company vision to be Top 10 MROs in The World by 2020. “The logistic warehouse will be built to support aircraft material for GMF’s Sumatera Line Maintenance,” he said.

Moreover, a new hangar was planned to build on a 25,000 m2 wide-area to captivate international aircraft maintenance market. The new hangar projected to be finished on the second semester of 2017 whilst study of feasibility is underway and will be fully operated by the second semester of 2018.

In the meantime, Juliandra expressed GMF’s enthusiasm in cooperated with BP Batam. “We appreciated BP Batam in term of purveying area for GMF parallels with Hang Nadim Airport expansion. Next, we’re going to establish which area will be given to GMF, negotiating commercial aspect and permission for utilizing the area. We’re looking forward to some partners in developing GMF’s business at Batam,” said Juliandra.

In addition to him, Batam has been chosen due to its strategic location wherein the aviation hub in Asia located in Singapore. Furthermore, Batam shows the good point on its business & trade growth, also Batam has special customs flexibility. “We’re optimist, our expansion could be driven to our vision, Top 10 MROs in The World by 2020,” he said.

At the same time, Head of BP Batam, Hatanto Reksodiputro said the cooperation is a result of incurring investment on a high-technology industry as BP Batam’s mission. “We appreciate GMF’s decision choosing Batam for developing its business. With MRO industry, we hope aviation industry will be growing better in the future,” he said.
