Majalengka, December 08th 2025 — PT Garuda Maintenance Facility Aero Asia Tbk (GMF) and PT Bandarudara Internasional Jawa Barat (BIJB) officially commenced the first phase of development of Kertajati Aerospace Park through a groundbreaking ceremony held at West Java International Airport (Kertajati), Majalengka, on Monday (08/12). This milestone marks the continuation of a series of strategic collaborations previously established through the signing of cooperation agreements, reaffirming the commitment of all stakeholders to establish an integrated aerospace ecosystem in Indonesia.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono; the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Rachmat Pambudy; the Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi; GMF CEO Andi Fahrurrozi; and the Acting President Director of BIJB, Ronald H. Sinaga. The symbolic ceremony marked the start of the development of an area expected to become a new catalyst for Indonesia’s aviation and defense industries.
In this first phase, area development will focus on the construction of basic infrastructure in parallel with the development of a rotary wing hangar. The scope of work includes land grading, development of internal access roads, and construction of primary utility networks such as electricity, water, and fiber optic, carried out concurrently with the construction of the rotary wing hangar to support government-sector rotary wing MRO operations and related services. The hangar is designed with flexible capacity to accommodate multiple medium-class helicopters simultaneously and is expected to commence phased operations in Q3–Q4 2026.
Following the completion of this initial phase, the area development will continue with the enhancement of airside connectivity through apron and taxiway development, as well as the construction of additional hangars for fixed-wing aircraft maintenance, MRO facilities for engines and components, spare parts manufacturing, and other supporting facilities in stages as part of the long-term Aerospace Park master plan.
GMF CEO, Andi Fahrurrozi, expressed his gratitude and optimism for the commencement of the construction phase. “Today marks not only the start of physical development, but also a major step toward Indonesia’s aerospace industry self-reliance. Kertajati Aerospace Park will serve as a new foundation for the national aviation ecosystem, where MRO capabilities,
component manufacturing, logistics, and human capital development will converge within one integrated area,” he said. Andi added that the investment value for the first phase, particularly the hangar and initial facilities, is estimated to exceed USD 5 million and will continue to grow as the area expands in subsequent phases. “With full government support and close collaboration with BIJB, we are confident that Kertajati will evolve into a new center of gravity for Indonesia’s aviation industry and generate broad economic impact, both nationally and regionally.”
The Acting President Director of BIJB, Ronald H. Sinaga, emphasized that this early-stage development represents a strategic momentum for positioning Kertajati as an aerocity and a new economic growth node in West Java. “With GMF as our strategic partner, we are increasingly optimistic that Kertajati will develop into an integrated aviation activity hub, supported by the presence of world-class stakeholders. We believe this area will become a space for the growth of innovation and sustainable aviation industrial activities, guided by Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, and capable of delivering high-value-added industrial activities for both regional and national development,” he stated.
The long-term development of Kertajati Aerospace Park includes plans for a broader aerospace industry zone, encompassing manufacturing facilities, logistics centers, training facilities, and other supporting areas. All of these elements will be developed in stages following the operational readiness of the core infrastructure and the main hangar. In the long run, the area is expected to become a new growth center in West Java, encouraging participation of surrounding SMEs and creating employment and investment opportunities in the rapidly growing aviation sector. With a green, smart, and sustainable industrial development concept, the area will prioritize energy efficiency, global-standard waste management, and operational digitalization through the utilization of IoT and integrated monitoring systems.
The presence of Kertajati Aerospace Park is expected to become a key lever for West Java’s economic growth, strengthen Kertajati’s position as a logistics hub and high-tech industrial center in Indonesia, and deliver a strategic leap forward in strengthening the independence and resilience of Indonesia’s national aviation industry.
