Jakarta, June 12th 2025 – PT Garuda Maintenance Facility Aero Asia Tbk (GMF) reaffirmed its strategic moves in the defense sector by signing a series of memorandums of understanding with national and global partners at the Indo Defence 2024 Expo & Forum, a large-scale international exhibition serving as a platform for defense, aerospace, maritime, and security industry players to showcase their capabilities, held at JIExpo Kemayoran (11–14/06). The collaborations include the development of MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) services, technical training, and spare parts distribution to strengthen national readiness and expand the competitiveness of Indonesia’s aerospace industry.
On the first day, GMF established several partnerships, including with Autocraft, Turkish Aerospace Indonesia, and Boeing. On the second day, GMF also partnered with PT Inspirasi Putera Mandiri (IPM) and Dassault Aviation to strengthen GMF’s position in both national and global defense industries. GMF CEO, Andi Fahrurrozi, stated that GMF’s participation in Indo Defence reflects GMF’s commitment to expanding its role in the defense sector, which has now become one of the company’s main business pillars. “This step reflects GMF’s commitment to expanding national capabilities in the defense sector and future technologies through partnerships with global players,” said Andi.
Strategic Synergy with Boeing
GMF and Boeing, which already have a long-standing track record of cooperation, further strengthened and expanded their partnership. At Indo Defence, GMF and Boeing agreed to a memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation in maintenance, parts distribution, and technical training that will play a key role in supporting the development of a sustainable domestic defense industry ecosystem.
“Boeing is actively investing in the development of Indonesia’s aerospace ecosystem. Our strategic collaboration with GMF goes beyond maintenance; it’s about building long-term capability,” said Penny Burtt, President of Boeing Southeast Asia.
On the same occasion, Andi also added, “This partnership reflects a shared vision to enhance local capabilities, both in terms of technology and human resources, while making a real contribution to the advancement of the national industry in line with national priorities and global development goals.”
Empowering Eco-Friendly Technology with Autocraft
GMF and Autocraft signed a memorandum of understanding covering the development of MRO services for Autocraft’s zero-emission electric Vertical Take Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, the Autocraft E20+. GMF will be the official MRO partner for the E20+ and will contribute to the development of an environmentally friendly air mobility ecosystem. As part of this partnership, Autocraft will provide comprehensive training to GMF personnel. The scope of MRO services—including potential diagnostics, system upgrades, and repairs—will be developed by the Service and Operations team from Kintsugi Holding, Autocraft’s parent company.
“This partnership with GMF marks a major step in our mission to localize next-generation aviation support capabilities. Together, we’re building the groundwork for a self-reliant ecosystem that supports the introduction and sustainability of clean air mobility in Indonesia,” said Tareq Al Bannay, Vice President of Future Systems at Kintsugi Holding.
Andi added, “This collaboration with Autocraft symbolizes our determination to support the growth of a sustainable, green, and self-reliant industry.”
Strengthening Capabilities Through Strategic Collaborations
At the same event, GMF also formed a number of strategic collaborations to broaden its capabilities. On the first day, GMF signed a memorandum of understanding with Turkish Aerospace Indonesia to explore cooperation in the aerospace ecosystem, including aerostructures, engineering, research and development, and MRO services, by optimizing each party’s strengths. GMF also signed a cooperation agreement with IPM for the development of T56 Engine maintenance capabilities, a strategic defense asset. This collaboration allows optimal maintenance to be carried out domestically by combining the technical strengths and customer networks of both parties. GMF also signed two agreements with Dassault Aviation for the implementation of the Local Content Trade Compensation and Offset program for Rafale fighter aircraft, namely the Purchase Agreement and the Industrial Cooperation Contract - Rafale Structure and Wiring.
“GMF’s participation in Indo Defence is not merely a business step, but a reflection of the spirit to remain relevant, increase adaptability, and expand our contribution to the future landscape of the defense industry. Our focus is clear—enhancing competence, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring GMF is present as a player ready to fulfill national defense needs with international standards,” Andi concluded.
